Mixed MEdia ARt journaling for Goal Setting

Using creative collage and art journaling to
work with your new year’s goals

2022 was a year with a lot of twists, turns, changes and opportunities for me to go inward. And I am not alone in that. A lot of my friends, family and clients and colleagues have told me similar stories. 2022 was a ride, and maybe not the one you thought you were going on.

I worked with and supported clients through coaching this year whose business models have taken a huge about-face and they've landed themselves on a totally different path - one we didn’t see coming but when they got there it just made so much sense. That moment of convergence when it all comes together. It was inspiring! And supportive for me as well, as this year led me to places I didn’t expect to go.

The lesson here? You gotta set goals but have a loose grip on them.

I believe in setting goals. I believe in writing them down. I believe in believe (like ted lasso!) But I also believe this can be fun and we can find a better way to work with our goals. That’s where art journaling comes in!

Why better? Well its fun…a lot of what we do as adults sucks the fun out of life. Lists, to dos, habit trackers and that - why cant we engage with our thoughts and ideas in a way that connects us with our non linear abstract, sub conscious thoughts, and helps us achieve clarity, insight and guidance? Well we can! And that is the purpose of art journalling. It’s a way to express ourselves freely, tap into a topic or theme and see what we can pull from it when we let our selves express freely without organization, logic or intended outcome.

This month I dove into the process of using an art journal to create a fresh start page for the new year, a page to represent your goals, visually. The process of creating tactile works with the subconscious part of your brain, the part that’s into symbolic representation, and creates connections with your conscious, logical and methodical mind.
