The divine mixing of counter opposites. The hot and the cold. The meek and the bold. Temperance is a meditation on the art of holding what appears to be in opposition and allowing it to exist together.
So much of being human asks this of us. We can be happy and sad, tired and energized, certain and unsure. What seem like contradictions are often simply different ends of the same continuum, energies moving into and through one another rather than cancelling each other out.
In Temperance, soft pink moves into blue, becoming purple before deepening into ink and black. There is no clear point where one ends and the other begins. The beauty exists in the blending itself, in that place where opposing forces meet and something new is created between them.
Perhaps that is part of the complexity of being human: our capacity to hold seemingly opposing experiences at once. We aren't required to resolve ourselves into one thing or the other. We live in the movement between them, continually mixing, integrating and becoming.
